Deng is a Senior Student at Sunshine Secondary School, when he was just a young boy he experienced the tragedy of losing his mother. She passed at a young age as a result of complications when giving birth to his younger sister. Since this heartbreaking event, Deng and his younger sister have been raised by their grandmother in Kenya. In spite of the challenges of poverty and losing his mother, Deng maintains his resolve to never give up. He has an unusual resolve for a teenager to improve himself and provide a brighter future for those around him. This is why he is trying to attain his equivalent high school education from Sunshine Secondary School in Kenya.
His drive for success has resulted in his finding success in both academia and sports. In the classroom he maintains the equivalent of ‘A’ grades in his coursework. He also received The Nation’s Best Pupil Award in 2009 for having scored so high on national exams. Outside the classroom he loves to play basketball. At 6’5” and only sixteen years old, he is a very outstanding player.
Deng’s special effort to reach success, in spite of hardship, is why he is considered a candidate for scholarship donations through the Student Orphan Aid Program.
